WESLEY HILLS HOUSE

WESLEY HILLS HOUSE ON A HILL WITH A VERTICAL ADDITION, PLANTERS, AND STONE WORK
THE OWNER WAS TIRED OF HER TWO-DIMENSIONAL FACADE FROM THE 50's and she had a clear goal in mind: "I want the wow effect". The budget was somewhat limited. As a design strategy we looked for cues from the site and the existing house. Is there anything we could leverage to create the 'wow effect' on a limited budget? As the house is sitting on a hill and as the side of the house facing the driveway is exposed from the bottom of its foundation and up we figured that vertical dimension could be enhanced further to result in a new hierarchy. The large front volume, now almost 2.5 stories high welcomes the house guests as they proceed to a new viewing platform before turning to the main entry door.
